What would you say? Unsettling? Strict? Scary? Beyond my comprehension?
I think the last word we would come up with is “beauty.”
One of the most fascinating verses on the attributes of God says, “Worship the Lord in the beauty of his holiness.”
God’s holiness is one of the ways of summing up of his glorious attributes, his perfections, if you will.
So, the psalmist coins this phrase, “the beauty of his holiness.” How about that word beauty! So, the shocking and fascinating part to me is that God’s holiness is beautiful. But then again, it makes sense, doesn’t it? It’s God’s essence we’re talking about here.
Holiness is beautiful because it is separate from all that is wrong with our world. God’s holiness represents true rightness, true goodness, true and pure being.
